One of the best ways to learn more about your industry, promote your site,
and help your link popularity is to join a relevant forum. In most
any industry you are in, there is a probably an active relevant forum
to join. If there are multiple forums, do some research on the forums
traffic and page rank and try to join the most popular and relevant forum.
Once you are joined, you can use the forum to both post questions on topics
that you'd like to learn more about and you can answer questions from fellow members. Often times, the
people whom are active in the forums, are also active in the specific industry; so you can learn alot in these forums.
Most forums do not allow you to promote other sites and services. However, you usually are allowed to have a signature which can include a link to your website. So,
this means that each time you post a question or reply to a particular topic, your singnature will be displayed. So, by becoming active in a forum, you will also in effect
be promoting your website to a relevant audience.
Finally, make sure you post relevant questions and answer posts with helpful information. Because, if your only plan is to get on the forum to get you link posted, eventually
the forum moderator could take down your posts. Plus, users will be less likely to care about your signature if you aren't bringing any useful information to the table.
