15:27:09 [kaygreen] the call can be to offer products for sale, offer to hold classes or fundraisers, offer the business option, offer wholesale options

15:28:03 [BusyWoman] 1. Sometimes you have to lose a little money (or a lot, depending on your point of view) to keep a good customer.

15:28:06 [kaygreen] most people are afraid to pick up the phone and lose a bunch of business they could have if they stepped out of their comfort zone

15:28:14 [BusyWoman] 2. Block out sections of your time each day to make at least 5 phone calls.

15:28:24 [BusyWoman] 3. If you’re a talker, use a timer set to 4 min. (or the amount of time you’ll allow for each call). This will give you a ball park of how much time it will take to complete the five phone calls and help you stay on track.

15:28:39 [kaygreen] YES YES YES I teach my reps to make 5 contacts by phone each day

15:28:47 [BusyWoman] 4. Try to smile when speaking on the phone. It really shows through.

15:29:05 [BusyWoman] 5. Do not talk about yourself unless asked and even then, try to get the focus back onto your customer. (Example: Cust – How’s your family? Sales Rep – Fine, Jimmy had a little cold, but he’s better now. My husband might transfer jobs, but my biz can move anywhere. So how are your children?)

15:29:21 [BusyWoman] 6. On Fridays, clear your desk and set up a folder for all the things you have to do the next week. This helps you have a clear mind for your time off during the weekend.

15:46:31 [Melz] To back up what Kay said, I get better results from the relationships I have made (business, customers, etc.) than anything else.

15:47:34 [kaygreen] and funny thing is - for me I rarely get orders from people I know - I get orders from people who saw me somewhere or saw my listing somewhere or who did a search on Google for my products

15:48:18 [kaygreen] I can not seem to get those who know me well to understand the importance of having ID on their kids at all times

15:48:32 [kaygreen] most of my online friends have never ordered

15:48:49 [kaygreen] but I get lots of traffic from Google for people looking to protect their kids

15:50:02 [Melz] Aha! There are lot of Baby Expos going on nowadays. Have you looked into that? That would be a prefect expo for you.

15:50:17 [kaygreen] I would think yours would do well there. Have you offered them wholesale to little retail shops (making calls there)

15:50:32 [kaygreen] yes baby expos are great locally

15:50:48 [annelise] I did a couple of events with the oils. I need to find more that aren't too expensive and get better at figuring out how to present the stuff.

15:50:55 [kaygreen] how about for the ess oils - do you sell those at events, home parties, classes

15:51:05 [sewnaunt] There is very little locally, but I do fairs and consignments

15:51:14 [kaygreen] what about teaching classes on the uses of oils

15:52:10 [annelise] I've meant to do home parties and had a few people express interest in having one, but haven't yet. I had scheduled a first one for my house, but it was for just the same time as all $#&( broke loose there so it didn't happen

15:52:11 [Melz] Sew and Annelise - Kay is making a great point to all of us. Anything we can do that get's us in front of a customer is best. People like to do biz with people.

15:54:50 [annelise] I've occasionally seen classes listed on making things w/ essential oils in the various local adult ed programs, I might be able to do one of those. Or get back to teaching web site building at them. That was fun.

15:55:21 [kaygreen] check your local park district too - they will pay you to teach classes

15:55:58 [kaygreen] in the begging these outside contacts are so necessary. After you build a clientele and have lots of business it is not so important

15:57:09 [annelise] I'm not sure how to bring up either business to random people I run into. Not unless they give me an obvious opening

15:57:31 [annelise] Someone at a meeting I went to said she just tells everyone - store clerks etc.

16:00:08 [annelise] If I'm at least seeking out places where people might be more likely to have a need or interest that would help. Wahm boards are good for your products, but not so good for mine plus I'm wah, but not mom.

16:00:44 [kaygreen] then they answer - then ask what I do

16:01:05 [kaygreen] or to a clerk I am so lucky to come during the day before the crowds since I work at home

16:01:41 [kaygreen] I would sit down and brainstorm all the places and ways you could sell your product

16:02:02 [kaygreen] remember to advertise offline too

16:03:54 [annelise] Now that I'm moved, I should have more quiet time to work out what to do and to do it. I just got a bit derailed with a couple months of continual harassment so I couldn't think or do much of anything and then all the moving. It should be a lot better soon.
