15:06:58 [kaygreen] please introduce yourself and your URL
15:07:21 [countrycat] Lena Specker owner
http://www.countrycatcandle.com
15:08:26 [Marcy453] I'm so new, I don't have my website up yet
15:08:30 [kaygreen] I know Lena is building a rep team
15:08:40 [kaygreen] and Marcy is one of my reps interested in recruiting
15:08:58 [kaygreen] so lets start with how to get sign ups first
15:09:09 [Marcy453] actually I already have one and I haven't even gotten
started yet! lol!
15:09:15 [kaygreen] 1. Know your company and products well - you can not sell to
others what you do not know
15:09:28 [countrycat] great Kay just what I was looking for
15:09:50 [kaygreen] your recruits will want to know you are doing the business
well - although I find new recruits can usually recruit a couple right of the
bat from their enthusiasm
15:10:13 [Marcy453] that's exactly what's happened with me
15:10:21 [kaygreen] Before I started my rep program I had to be selling the
products in all the ways I wanted to teach my reps to sell
15:10:45 [kaygreen] Marcy go ahead and sign them up - just have them give your
rep number as the referral
15:10:46 [countrycat] I've got one right now that might be that way (I hope!)
15:11:13 [kaygreen] 2. Ask everyone you are in contact with - every customer
every time
15:11:13 [Marcy453] I think she wants to wait till I get started, but I'll tell
her she can do that
15:11:34 [kaygreen] yes she can join now and you both learn together
15:11:44 [kaygreen] If you do not ask the answer is already no
15:12:04 [kaygreen] I ask "Would you like to be able to buy wholesale for your
next order?"
15:12:26 [kaygreen] if you give classes/parties/event be sure to ask each person
- do not pre-judge
15:13:23 [countrycat] I'm learning not to judge I would have never thought I'd
have a man sign up to do home parties
15:13:40 [Marcy453] I think that's awesome Lena
15:14:45 [sewnaunt] Gail owner of Tillie & Tots
15:14:52 [kaygreen] I am Kay Green - owner of
http://www.MyPreciousKid.com
and have recruited nearly 500 people into my program over 3 years with the help
of reps
15:15:21 [kaygreen] I also own
http://www.123HomeBusinessGuide.com be sure to read the many articles
there to help your business plus other chat transcripts
15:15:46 [kaygreen] ok 1. Know your product 2. Ask everyone 3. Follow-up on all
leads quickly
15:15:56 [kaygreen] many leads are lost for lack of follow up
15:16:33 [kaygreen] find out how you can help them, answer their questions, tell
them why the business opportunity would benefit THEM, give them an incentive to
sign up now
15:16:47 [kaygreen] not pushy but available
15:18:07 [countrycat] Kay, have you found that having a yahoo group for your
reps has been helpful?
15:19:44 [kaygreen] yes it is so important - I actually have 4 groups for them
but use 2
15:19:55 [Marcy453] Lena..how many recruits do you have?
15:20:02 [kaygreen] one for announcements only - when I need to tell everyone
the same thing at once - required for all reps
15:20:17 [countrycat] right now 2
15:20:18 [kaygreen] the other is interactive training group - so important for
motivation and training
15:20:32 [kaygreen] pch please introduce yourself and your URL
15:20:34 [countrycat] great that's what I was thinking of doing
15:20:53 [kaygreen] I had probably 30 before they started interacting on the
yahoogroup though
15:20:58 [Marcy453] I've already set one up for my co-op group I'm forming
15:21:05 Angela enters this room
15:21:56 [pcheflady] Hi my name is Stephanie and my main business is with The
Pampered Chef but I just recently joined Kay with My Precious Kid
15:21:56 [kaygreen] yahoogroups make it easy to interact with a large group of
people at once
15:22:13 [kaygreen] so far.....................
15:22:33 [kaygreen] 1. Know your product 2. Ask everyone 3. Follow-up leads
quickly
15:22:42 [Angela] I am Angela Billings
and I am a new rep for affordable luxuries
15:22:50 [kaygreen] 4. Ask for referrals from others
15:23:14 [kaygreen] and once you have a sign up - help them get started
15:23:28 [kaygreen] give them tips - show them what to do first - help them get
excited
15:23:35 [kaygreen] encourage them - train them
15:23:55 [countrycat] when I mail info to a lead would you suggest emailing them
about a week after they got it to touch base?
15:24:05 [kaygreen] each of you please ask 1 question about recruiting or
building a rep team
15:24:30 [kaygreen] snail mail - 5 days email 2 days
15:24:40 [kaygreen] do not let the lead go cold
15:25:01 [kaygreen] and remember you will have lots that asks questions that say
no thank you - that is ok and expected
15:27:33 [kaygreen] are you asking every person who buys from you if they want
to join and buy wholesale
15:28:33 [kaygreen] have each of you recruited any one into your business yet
15:28:59 [Angela] I haven't yet
15:29:09 [kaygreen] do you have a letter to send out email to those who ask for
info - do you have a packet of info to give to someone at a party/class who asks
for info
15:29:17 [Marcy453] I have one strong possibility
15:29:17 [pcheflady] I recruited someone in my PC business but they left
15:29:40 [pcheflady] I still need to work on building my teams
15:29:58 [Marcy453] I considered pc
15:30:29 [Marcy453] I have so much organizational work to do
15:30:40 [Marcy453] putting together different packets for different folders
15:30:48 [Marcy453] this is good.....keeps me thinking
15:30:54 [Marcy453] my head is spinning
15:31:22 [kaygreen] take it one step at a time
15:31:34 [Marcy453] I'm working on that Kay
15:31:43 [kaygreen] I create a letter of r each thing and keep it in my drafts
folder for email so I can copy and paste as needed
15:32:06 [kaygreen] recruiting is about numbers. Only about 25% will stick
around after they join
15:32:21 [kaygreen] I find almost 50% join then do nothing and are dropped
15:32:37 [kaygreen] 25% work at it a bit then decide it is work imagine that
15:32:47 [kaygreen] 25% will work their business as a business
15:32:57 [kaygreen] so recruit 4 to keep 1
15:33:08 [kaygreen] so recruit 20 to get 5
15:33:15 [Marcy453] so are you saying it's more important to just sign up anyone
who seems interested than to sort of pick and choose who you sign up based on
how interested they really are (does this fit into that prejudge category?!?!?)
15:33:21 [kaygreen] that is why you ask every person every time
15:33:57 [kaygreen] yes - do not prejudge - I have had those come in who sounded
so gung ho then just did nothing. I had others who seems so-so who really ended
up working
15:34:05 [Marcy453] I wander if those that don't stick with it have a good up
line rep to help...do you think that has much to do with it?
15:34:13 [kaygreen] you never know what will get them going
15:34:26 [kaygreen] I think a good up line is only a small part
15:34:35 [Marcy453] not everyone is self-motivating
15:34:43 [kaygreen] I give really good training and information to my reps - I
still loose 75%
15:34:53 [Marcy453] it's really easy to feel overwhelmed at first
15:34:57 [kaygreen] holding their hand thru the beginning definitely does help
15:35:10 [kaygreen] encouraging them - applauding them all helps
15:35:32 [kaygreen] but ultimately it's up to them whether they will pickup the
phone and make the contacts to run their business
15:35:36 [Angela] I think lots of people come in as reps thinking the grass is
greener on the other side and when it isn't they are off to the next opportunity
15:36:06 [kaygreen] that is where it stops - those who do the contacts each day
to build their business succeed - those who do not make the contacts will not
stay
15:36:33 [kaygreen] Angela so very true - if you pick any company and stay and
WORK it for the long haul you will succeed
15:36:56 [kaygreen] I know reps is PC who have done great and others who said it
would not sell - I personally had a $500 party with PC
15:37:09 [kaygreen] I can tell you the same story for almost any company out
there
15:37:18 [Marcy453] I've personally spent $500 at a pc party! lol!
15:37:30 [kaygreen] Marcy I have a few doing well - they are not posting a lot
because they are working
15:38:05 [kaygreen] I have about 25% of the reps ordering each month
15:38:08 [pcheflady] just like any business it all depends on how you work it
15:38:23 [kaygreen] yes it does
15:38:35 [kaygreen] the key is to help new recruits see it as a business not a
hobby
15:40:07 [kaygreen] it is what we talked about in this class last week
15:40:19 [kaygreen] most people do not want to make calls for business
15:41:04 [kaygreen] the daily contacts are what will make or break any business
owner - for each of you
15:41:29 [kaygreen] remember though that recruiting is only one part of your
business
15:41:51 [kaygreen] selling needs to be your primary focus - when you sell ask
for recruits and your team will build up naturally
15:42:13 [kaygreen] every day find a new place to get your business in front of
people
15:42:34 [kaygreen] I find I can not reply on others to build my business
15:43:04 [Marcy453] I'm trying to figure out now how to get in touch with people
about baby fairs and craft shows
15:43:14 [Angela] Selling is the main part because most companies will not pay
commission on the down line unless you have certain sales yourself
15:43:19 [kaygreen] I personally sold more retail the last 2 months then the
total of wholesale rep orders all together - I can not rely on the rep team to
build my business. I build my business, recruiting as I go and the combination
of both builds my profits
15:43:23 [Marcy453] just where do you find that kind of info
15:43:28 [kaygreen] Angela so true
15:44:03 [kaygreen] my reps have to order $50 wholesale each month to get the 5%
recruit commissions. Other companies require $400 or more each month personally
to get recruit commissions
15:44:33 [kaygreen] check with event centers in your area, babies R us, chamber
of commerce, fair grounds, expo centers
15:45:06 [kaygreen] once you start doing a fee fairs you get in the circuit and
then hear about the other events from the vendors you meet
15:45:40 [kaygreen] asking everyone - not prejudging
15:45:51 [kaygreen] making the contacts for business every day
15:45:59 [Teri] I know....I'm so bummed I missed most of it!
15:46:02 [kaygreen] Teri can I answer any questions
15:46:13 [kaygreen] I will save the transcript
15:47:39 [Teri] No questions off hand. I guess I was just going for inspiration.
:-)
15:47:46 [countrycat] Kay have you joined your chamber of commerce? I'm thinking
of joining mine and was wondering if its worth it
15:47:51 [kaygreen] No rules for success will work if you don't.
15:48:07 [kaygreen] I do not have a chamber of Comm here - I live in the boonies
15:48:28 [kaygreen]
http://www.123homebusinessguide.com/chats/chattranscripts.html read
here for inspiration
15:48:40 [kaygreen] Teri have you recruited others into your business
15:51:21 [Teri] I have quite a few people who are 'distributors', but only to
get the product wholesale. This is only one part of my business.
15:52:29 [kaygreen] one thing: be sure you can state the benefits to the other
person for joining your program - what is in it for them
15:52:51 [kaygreen] help them see how the gain from joining it - not how you
gain if they join
15:53:30 [kaygreen] their first question is usually some form of "What's in it
for me?"
15:55:22 [kaygreen] can you answer that question for them
15:55:27 [countrycat] good point Kay I'll remember to use that way when I'm
telling people
15:55:45 [kaygreen] also they are more likely to join under someone doing the
business well - they want to know that others can be successful
15:56:12 [kaygreen] well we are almost done - any more question

16:00:07 [pcheflady] I just stopped in to see what this was all about. I need to
go and work on getting people to my PC party this weekend
16:00:36 [countrycat] how do you do fundraisers with your reps Kay?
16:01:54 [pcheflady] thank you Kay
16:02:03 [kaygreen] they each do their own thing offering a percentage of their
profit to the organization
16:02:08 [kaygreen] you are most welcome
16:02:17 [pcheflady] bye
16:03:09 [countrycat] do they use their discount or do you offer a bigger
discount so they can still make some?
16:05:18 [countrycat] thanks Kay everyone have a great week!
16:05:27 [kaygreen] no same discount - they get 25-50% off MPK items depending
on volume and 25% off all other items - they usually give away 10% and some give
25% of the MPK items
16:05:44 [kaygreen] buy ladies - see you next week
16:05:48 [countrycat] gotcha!
16:05:54 [kaygreen] any suggestions for next weeks topic
